MacArthur High School freshman Cooper Watson, represented his school and Lawton Public Schools when he qualified as an individual for the OSSAA 5A Boy’s State Golf Tournament, May 8-9 at the Territory Golf and CC.
Watson, who qualified for State by shooting a 2-round total of 142 at the Regional Tournament, competed against some of the best players in the State in just his first year playing high school golf.
In the 54-hole tournament, Watson started out strong, shooting his best round of the week during the first 18 holes. His first-round 78 was followed up by a 79 in the second round, which had him ninth place after 36-holes of play. Watson’s third round was not as solid (88), but the young Highlander represented his school well by finishing with a top-20 finish (t-17) and a score of 245.
Bishop Kelley’s Will Hennessee won the individual State title with a score of 209, while the team State Championship went to MHS rival Duncan, who shot a team score of 915.
Congratulations to Cooper on a great season, and we know we will see you and your team competing for a State Championship in 2024!
